On June 17th, 2001, Father's Day, my family and I took a trip to The Lake O' The Pines in East Texas. My stepfather, Bobby Ray Kincaid Jr., took me on my first jet-ski ride. A speedboat full of drunken teenagers was racing along the waves and t-boned our jet-ski. My right leg was caught in the propellor, and it was left scarred. The front of the boat struck my stepdad in the head. He would later pass away, on the way to shore.
On January 2nd, 2009, my grandfather, Bobby Ray Kincaid Sr., after suffering through numerous physical disabilities throughout his life, succumbed and also passed away.
My only regret was never telling either of those great men, who taught me so much, how much I loved and appreciated them. On January 9th, 2009, I wrote "How Much I Loved You," a poem I dedicated to both of these men.
I never told you,
How much I loved you,
I never bothered,
To take the time.
I never told you,
How much I cared.
I never bothered,
To show a sign.
I never told you,
How much I needed you.
I never bothered,
To elaborate.
I never told you,
How much I loved you.
I never bothered,
Until it was too late.
